Employee Spotlight: Michell Guzelgul

by Nina Santos

Digital technology is crucial in managing human resources teams, especially in healthcare. One individual who recognizes its immense potential is Michell Guzelgul, Empeon’s CFO.

Meet Michell Guzelgul: A Leader with a Vision

In today’s era of digitalization, the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is evolving. A critical skill is recognizing up-and-coming advancements that can streamline financial management and processes in human resources.

Residing in Teaneck, New Jersey, Michell is a certified public accountant with extensive industry expertise. His responsibilities extend beyond financial planning and management. He oversees departments related to human resources, accounting and taxation — and within this dynamic landscape, Michell emphasizes the need for strategic planning and fostering a long-term vision.

Michell says that among his key strengths is his superior data analytical skills. He enjoys simplifying complex concepts and massive data sets into digestible information, helping stakeholders and companies make informed decisions. And in the healthcare sphere, where regulations are constantly evolving, this is critical.

In addition to his industry experience, Michell is a husband and father with a unique point of view — his wife is a nurse practitioner. He sees firsthand the daily challenges faced by healthcare professionals.

“I see (my wife) come home at night and work an extra one, two, (or) three hours, updating her charts or logging her hours and seeing who she spoke to at what time. If she had the tech in place... her life would be a lot easier.”

Automation is one answer to many similar challenges faced in healthcare HR. Organizations can use it to streamline their operations and empower their workforce, from recruitment and onboarding to data entry and performance evaluations. Automation technology also offers seamless integration between different HR functions like payroll management and applicant tracking systems — ultimately leading to cost savings through reduced administrative burdens.

Embracing Technology in Healthcare HR

Gone are the days when companies need to rely on manual bookkeeping and filing systems.

“Currently, our customer’s biggest need is to move into a more automated environment,” says Michell.

For Michell, success involves embracing AI, leveraging data-driven insights and implementing real-time processing techniques in healthcare HR practices.

“You can no longer separate technology from the healthcare industry; they go hand in hand. But the (healthcare) industry, in general, has been lagging. (In many cases), they haven’t adopted the new tech, and it would benefit them because there is a substantial amount of savings that can come through adopting new technologies.”

“Let (your team) focus on what they do best. The tech should help a company reduce cost, make (the team) more efficient, lower overhead, and you want a system that does all of this,” says Michell.

“Relying solely on human capital to handle the immense amount of data flowing through an organization is no longer feasible. (It’s imperative that we) incorporate AI and prioritize data-driven decision-making processes. (We must assess) the entire system and (enable) split-second decision-making abilities that humans are unable to match,” Michell emphasizes.

Incorporating HCM SaaS Tools

What are the different ways that technology can assist in optimizing processes for healthcare facilities and businesses? These days, integrated solutions include financial, HR, and business analytics tools. Managing the multiple angles of human capital in one place helps organizations streamline their operations and increase their ability for informed decision-making. For Michell, this is a valuable all-in-one approach that eliminates the need for multiple systems. Healthcare companies can enjoy the simplicity of one single location for all human capital needs.

“It’s one central place that you should have where you can manage the entire cycle of the employee life in your organization and through their employment and make it quite easy to manage (their needs),” says Michell.

Solutions that Prioritize Automation and White Glove Service

Among HCM SaaS advantages is the automation features. Data can be imported in seconds, reducing the need for manual data entry, saving time, and minimizing the possibility of errors.

“You can’t really build a company on pen and paper anymore. (Software companies have) already thought about this and the opportunity for growth. Where are your pain points, what do you need to get away from, and what do you need to do more? (You need a company that’s) constantly at the forefront of technology.”

And it’s not just about technology — customer service is a cornerstone of successful business models. Using a “White Glove” approach, clients can be guided through setup, data migration, and subsequent troubleshooting.

Bottom Line for Healthcare HR

Michell envisions a future where healthcare HR fully embraces technological integration.

“You can no longer use the amount of data that goes through an organization and (only) have human capital behind to look at it. (It’s best) to have things such as AI, (and) it has to be data-driven. You need to look into the entire system and make sure you’re able to make split-second decisions, which is what technology can offer.”

When thinking about his wife’s day-to-day duties, Michell believes that technology integration could make all the difference for everyone.

“I wish I could help her. Tech touches on all points of life, whether you’re directly connected to it or not. I wish that her organization would add (a system) to make it a little bit easier on her, which would make it easier on me. All you need to do there is integrate the right tech into the right spaces.”
